Cost variance comes from turf grade (economy face-weight 60-70 oz vs. premium 80-100 oz with longer-life UV stabilizers), infill type (silica sand is cheaper but holds odor on dog yards; antimicrobial Envirofill or zeolite costs more but is the right call for pets), drainage requirements (most LA-area lots need a French drain at the low end of the lawn to handle winter runoff; about $400-$1,200 add-on), and depth of base prep. We excavate 3-4 inches, lay Class II road base, compact in lifts to 95%, and screed flat to a 1-2% drainage slope.
