Most exterior painting projects take 3-7 days depending on the size of your home, the condition of existing surfaces, and weather conditions. A typical single-story home can be completed in 3-4 days, while larger two-story homes may take 5-7 days. Prep work like scraping, sanding, and priming can add additional time if surfaces are in poor condition.

Several factors influence pricing: the size and height of your home, the condition of existing paint (more prep work means higher costs), the number of colors used, the quality of paint selected, accessibility challenges like steep slopes or landscaping, and whether repairs to siding, trim, or wood rot are needed before painting.

For California homes, we recommend 100% acrylic latex paint with UV protection and mildew resistance. Premium brands like Sherwin-Williams Duration, Benjamin Moore Aura, or Dunn-Edwards Evershield are excellent choices. These paints withstand intense sun exposure, temperature fluctuations, and occasional rain while maintaining color vibrancy for years.

In California's climate, most homes need repainting every 7-10 years. However, this varies based on sun exposure (south-facing walls fade faster), paint quality used previously, siding material (stucco vs. wood vs. fiber cement), and proximity to the coast where salt air accelerates wear. Watch for chalking, fading, peeling, or cracking as signs it's time to repaint.

Exterior painting typically does not require a permit in most California cities since it's considered routine maintenance. However, if your home is in a historic district or governed by an HOA, you may need approval for color choices. Always check with your local planning department and HOA before starting your project.
