Culver City Driveway and Curb Drain

The homeowners wanted the old asphalt driveway gone, the concrete walkway along the side of the house replaced, and a drain that would move water off the property. Culver City reviewed the driveway and drainage under a Site Improvement permit, and a city inspector came out for a pre-construction inspection before any work started. Day one was demolition: the asphalt driveway and the side walkway came out and went into the city roll-off. In Culver City, only the city hauls construction debris, so the bin was ordered through Culver City Sanitation.

Day two was the drain line. The approved plans tied the new drain into the existing curb drain, so the pipe had to cross under the public sidewalk. That meant cutting a section of the sidewalk, about 5 by 5 feet.

Day three was the pour. The approved plans set the driveway at 16 feet wide, and the steel grid went down on the prepared base before the concrete.

The cut section of public sidewalk was re-poured together with the driveway work, with the drain outlet in the curb face.

On site, the job took five days in all. The city completed its inspections and finaled the permit.
